L'Aquila: Surrounded by the Gran Sasso National Park, Mount Velino and the Maiella mountains, the province of L'Aquila is an area of extreme natural interest, studded with castles, fortified villages, and ancient ruins, including Rocca Calascio and the Italic necropolis in Fossa. Alba Fucens, the oldest city in Abruzzo, is located here, along with Sulmona and its museums and renowned candies. There are many paths to walk, like those in the Maiella, or ski areas like Ovindoli and Pescasseroli.
